I photograph the landscape as I find it—no composites, no replaced skies, no digital manipulation beyond what the darkroom always allowed. My commitment is to the eye-witness tradition: honoring what was actually present in that moment of light, weather, and geography. I want the landscape to speak for itself.
The Northern California coast has become my artistic home. From Sonoma County north through Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte, this coastline offers extraordinary beauty: sandstone cliffs carved by millennia of waves, hidden coves, black sand beaches, and the cathedral-like stillness of old-growth redwoods with waterfalls hidden in their folds. I return to certain locations dozens of times, and each visit yields something different.
In an age of AI-generated imagery, the durability of landscape photography comes from something far older than any new technology: the basic human instinct to spend time outdoors, to pay attention to light and weather, and to let that attention shape how we see the world. My hope is that viewers feel as though they are standing where I stood, seeing a landscape that needs no embellishment.
My work has been published in Outdoor Photographer, New Mexico Magazine, Landscape Photography Magazine, and Smart Photography, and exhibited internationally including at London’s Royal Botanic Gardens. I’m also Co-Founder of the Natural Landscape Photography Awards, celebrating photographers who embrace the eye-witness tradition.
